Woodfab Timber Ltd in Aughrim, Co. Wicklow, has strengthened its high-output timber operation with the addition of two new Komatsu wheeled loaders — the WA475-11 and WA380-8 — supplied by McHale Plant Sales, Komatsu’s authorised distributor in Ireland.
The new machines expand Woodfab’s Komatsu fleet to four units, supporting the company’s annual production of more than 120,000 tonnes of timber.
Both loaders are equipped with Scottish-made Powerhand LG series log grabs, purpose-built for fast and precise log-handling. Their robust construction and smooth hydraulic response make them well suited to Woodfab’s busy yard, where machines operate up to 11–12 hours per day.
An important factor in the purchase was the 8,000-hour warranty, combined with McHale’s proven ability to deliver rapid diagnostics, servicing and backup. “Whenever there is an issue with any of the Komatsus, McHales diagnose and solve it right away,” says General Manager Richard Whyte. “There’s no downtime — and that’s crucial to our operation.”
Komatsu’s telematics system also plays a key role. McHale monitors service schedules, alerts and machine health remotely, allowing preventative action before issues develop. Woodfab reports particularly strong performance from the WA475-11, which is returning exceptional fuel efficiency and is also fully compatible with HVO fuel.
Operators Vadim Gussinski and Mateusz Liberkowski praised the loaders for comfort and smooth control, highlighting the spacious, low-noise cabs during long shifts.
Woodfab maintains full FSC® certification, ISO standards and GA1-certified equipment through Prolift Handling.
