We took a spin over to MG Plant and Machinery Sales who are in Swinford, Co Mayo to check out their operation and what they have to offer.

MG Plant have recently been appointed new dealer for XCMG machines and when I went down there, they had an impressive line up of these fine units.
Probably a lesser known brand in the Emerald Isle, XCMG are the third largest plant manufacturer in the world.

But now they have made their way here and one can only guess they are going to be extremely popular amongst the Irish clients.
Apart from the quality build of these units, the price is something that cannot be ignored, and I mean that in a good way.

These machines are significantly cheaper than most of the other well known brands.

I was only in MG Plant for about an hour and I counted at least 5 or 6 customers viewing the excavators in the yard. Everyone seems interested and according to Martin Gleeson, they are moving out the door fairly lively.

XCMG Group, based in China, holds a significant position in the global construction machinery industry. They’re considered to be one of the largest construction machinery manufacturers in the world, with a substantial market presence in over 180 countries.

While precise rankings may vary depending on the specific metrics used, XCMG typically ranks among the top manufacturers globally in terms of revenue, market share, and the breadth of its product offerings. The company’s extensive product line includes excavators, cranes, loaders, road machinery, and more, catering to diverse construction needs.

I spoke to Martin about the company and the road from where they began….

“Myself and my brother Michael took over from our father Michael. He sold farm tractors from 1973 to the mid 90’s, but then in the late 90’s we started selling construction equipment mainly coming from Japan.” says Martin.

From 1998 onwards the business has gone from strength to strength with MG carrying all the big brands like Hitachi, Caterpillar, Kubota, Komatsu and now XCMG.

“We mainly retail machines, but we also export machines too. We stock a wide range of spare parts for all the major brands and a lot of the parts we stock are also compatible with the XCMG brand.”

We’ve only introduced the XCMG units about three weeks ago, and the response has been fantastic,” Martin remarks.

They offer rotation lines, check valves as standard, hydraulic quick hitches, essentially the machine is left site ready before it goes out the door.

They sell everything from 1.8 tonne up to 20/30 tonne on the XCMG brand.

“The 2.7 tonne is really good value, it has all of the above and a Kubota engine to boot.” says Martin

“Most people when they come to look at the new machine (because it’s a new product/brand) think they’re going to fault it but anyone who has come to view has ended up making a purchase, our price is a huge selling point,” said Martin.

MG also pride themselves on their service, parts and back up. They have two mobile units with experienced mechanics on the road nationwide.
They have 17 staff, 4 vans in total and an excellent line-up of stock, including the XCMG brand.

Niall O’Donnell is in charge of parts, and they have a massive amount of stock in that area.

“Things are looking good at the moment and in fact we are looking to open a new additional depot in the near future.” said Martin

So, if it’s XCMG you’re looking for, or in fact any big brands, go to MG Plant and Machinery Sales and Martin or Michael will look after you.
