Dublin City Council has appointed Purcell Construction Limited as main contractor for Phase 1 of the Parnell Square Cultural Quarter, with work beginning shortly.
The €173.2 million project will deliver a five-storey City Library spanning more than 6,100 square metres and restore the Georgian terrace at 23-28 Parnell Square North. It will also upgrade the Hugh Lane Gallery’s 1930s wing and create a connection through Charlemont House.
Replacing the Central Library at the Ilac Centre, the new facility will provide accessible spaces for reading, learning, creativity, performance and community participation.
Government funding of €105.14 million has been confirmed through the Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund, alongside Dublin City Council resources.
Purcell Construction Managing Director Derek Timlin said the company would work collaboratively with stakeholders, minimise disruption to the local community and deliver a high-quality cultural destination for residents and visitors.
