International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) celebrates it’s 10th year in 2023, and this years theme is #MakeSafetySeen.
INWED is the biggest celebration of women engineers in the world. The only platform of its kind, it plays a vital role in encouraging more young women to take up exciting careers in engineering.
Let’s meet Hitachi Construction Machinery UK’s first female engineer… Kelsie Dugmore!
Kelsie joined HCMUK February this year, as a Hitachi Connected Technology Special Applications Installation Engineer. Kelsie started her career in an apprenticeship role in heavy diesel mechanical and electrical engineering.
Prior to her apprenticeship, Kelsie enjoyed working on cars in her spare time.
With positive feedback about her time with Hitachi Construction Machinery UK so far, we asked Kelsie:
What do you enjoy most about your job?
The team is great and my job is interesting. I’m always learning and evolving with automation development.
Where do you see yourself in the future?
Advancing to a more technical role, furthering my systems knowledge, and assisting in the development of new systems.
In the UK, women make up only 16.5% of engineers. Here at Hitachi Construction Machinery UK, we’d like to continue to diversify our workforce, and support women in the industry.
