Rockwell Engineering recently welcomed the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity’s MakeItVisible on site team to their headquarters in Cork. The charity provides wellbeing support and resources to workshop and office personnel, as part of the ongoing partnership, aimed at improving workforce wellbeing and signposting to vital support services.
The construction industry faces a significant challenge with mental health issues, with an alarming average of two construction workers taking their lives each day. The Lighthouse Charity stands out as the sole charity in Ireland and the UK dedicated to addressing the emotional, physical, and financial wellbeing of workers in this sector and their families.
The event held at Cork City headquarters centred around the crucial topic of workforce wellbeing, offering practical steps to promote mental health in the workplace. Members of the charity’s MakeItVisible on-site team delivered a tool box talk and shared their own experiences and struggles with poor mental health. They also delivered a toolbox talk and spoke with employees to engage in confidential conversations, creating a safe space for dialogue. At the conclusion of the event, attendees were provided with resource bags containing helpful materials and freebies.
The Lighthouse Charity extends its support through various channels, including a free and confidential 24/7 Construction Industry Helpline, live chat service, and the text-based HARDHAT facility, offering information, guidance, and support on a wide range of wellbeing issues. Complementing these services is their free Self Support App and Lighthouse Beacons, , which provide additional avenues for assistance. Furthermore, their Wellbeing Academy offers diverse free soft skills and leadership training across various platforms to cater to different learning styles.
Carolina Zanetti, HR administrator at Rockwell, commented: “We were delighted to welcome the MakeItVisible team to Rockwell’s offices and workshop in Cork. The speakers, Dale and Justin, shared not only their personal experiences but also invaluable insights into the free resources and initiatives provided by the Lighthouse Charity.
Shauna Reilly, also a HR Administrator with Rockwell shared: “The Lighthouse Charity goes above and beyond in a variety of ways to support the construction industry. Their commitment ensures that our employees receive comprehensive support, fostering an environment in the construction industry that values their physical, mental, and social welfare. We are so grateful for all the support and resources that the Lighthouse Charity offers.”
Sarah Bolton, Chief Operating Officer for the Lighthouse Charity said, “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Rockwell. As well as providing valuable financial support to us through our Company Supporter programme, they are also raising awareness of our charitable services with their teams and supply chain and promoting a positive wellbeing culture.”
