Gary Ashe travels to scenic West Wicklow to check out a couple of new Terex Finlay machines in Hudson Bros’ quarry in Blessington.
When driving down into the pit on a hot summer’s day at Hudson Bros quarry in Blessington, two new red machines come into view – these are Terex Finlay units freshly added to the set up.
One is a Terex Finlay J-1175 jaw crusher feeding a Powerscreen 1300 Maxtrack which in turn is feeding the other Terex Finlay unit, a 883+ with hybrid technology. Both Terex machines were supplied by Dungannon Plant Sales.
The full set up on the day I visited included a Case CX800 excavator feeding the J-1175 which in turn was feeding the Powerscreen 1300 Maxtrack cone crusher feeding the second Terex Finlay 883+ screener. The product was then picked up with a Volvo L180E loading shovel.
Hybrid tech
I ask Hudson Bros director Peter Hudson about the new plant. “The 883+ is a hybrid machine so if the engine breaks down for whatever reason it can be powered by a generator,” he explains.
“The hopper is also modified to be fed with a loading shovel if necessary. The J-1175 is also a great machine. We find it a very aggressive jaw crusher. It’s a very versatile machine working in tandem with the rock breakers processing greywacke rock of different grade sizes.
“The Terex Finlay machines have been operating here now for a couple of months and we are very happy so far. I find them very fuel efficient with a good tonnage coming off them. We have also fitted auto-lube systems to both Terex Finlay machines. The 883+ has a Caterpillar engine and the J-1175 has a Scania engine, both being very fuel efficient.
“Both machines also have the T Link system where I can access all the information via an app on my phone including maintenance schedules, fault information etc,” adds Peter. “I have had a great experience dealing with Dungannon Plant Sales.They have a fantastic back up service, Alan Fallon is superb to deal with, no matter what time day or night, the phone will answer. And when the crushers are due a service, one phone call and the boys are down within a day or two.”
But reliability has not been an issue. “Both the crusher and the screener haven’t missed a beat since the day we goth them,” says Peter.
High performance
The J-1175 tracked jaw crusher is a high performance and aggressive mobile crusher. The machine incorporates a heavy-duty variable speed VGF and integrated prescreen to give optimum performance in quarrying, mining, demolition and recycling applications. The machine has hydrostatic drive which offers reversible operation for clearing blockages and demolition applications. It features a robust Terex 1,070 x 760 mm driven single toggle jaw crusher.
Its compact size, quick set up times, ease of transport and simple maintenance make the Finlay J-1175 Tracked Jaw Crusher ideal for quarrying, mining, demolition and recycling applications.
The robust high performance hydrostatic driven single toggle jaw chamber provides high capacity with large reduction ratios. Automatic variable speed VGF ensures continuous choke feeding of the crushing chamber for optimal productivity.
High powered hydrostatic drive ensures precise chamber controls and reverse functionality for clearing blockages and assisting in demolition and recycling applications.
Fully hydraulic closed side setting minimises downtime and offers quick adjustment.
Heavy duty
The 883+ mobile screener has been developed as a high capacity and versatile heavy-duty scalper to work in primary and secondary screening applications such as quarry and mining, iron ore, construction demolition waste, sand, gravel, compost, top soil and coal. The screenbox features two ‘true’ full size 4.8 x 1.53m screening decks. It is available with hybrid technology consisting of on-board electrical motors permitting the flexibility to run the plant from an outside power supply or standard on-board engine.
Key features of the 883+ include modular configuration screen box with 4.8 m x 1.5 m top deck and 4.8 m x 1.5 m bottom deck screen. Each on board discharge conveyor is powered by a separate hydraulic circuit as standard and the width of the fines conveyor is now 900 mm as standard.
The banana profile and increased area of the new bottom deck maximises screening of fines material. The screenbox discharge end can be hydraulically raised 500 mm to facilitate efficient and easy media access and changing. The fully reversible side conveyors are standard which offers ultimate flexibility to the user depending on their specific requirements.
