Vacuum excavation
Vacuum or suction excavation is a versatile technique that is growing in use. A suction excavator is a cleverly designed machine that uses the power of suction to safely and quickly remove earth and ground materials.
The suction tube draws the material up and into the holding tank within the excavator.
Vacuum excavation is the safest method of excavation around utilities. Risk of damage to the utilities is eliminated. The excavated material is contained in the vehicle rather than deposited on the side of the trench which is important in confined spaces.
The process utilises high-powered fans to safely excavate up to 43 meters of depth depending on the configuration. First, a small surface area hole of about 250 mm is created. Then, the suction excavator hose removes materials below the surface.
Compressed air is used to fracture the ground for the suction excavator to remove the material safely. No manual hand tooling is used in the process.
