ALL-NEW KOMATSU WA475-10 WHEEL LOADER – STANDOUT EXHIBIT AT BAUMA

A standout exhibit at the recent Bauma 2019 show was the all-new WA475-10 prototype wheel loader – which gave Irish customers a foretaste of what is to come when it arrives on the Irish market later this year through distributor McHale Plant Sales. With Komatsu Hydraulic Mechanical Transmission (KHMT), it is powered by an EU Stage V engine and has an operating weight of 24,000kg approx, a rated payload capacity of 7,500kg, and a bucket capacity of 4.2 – 4.9 cubic metres.

Up to 30% more fuel-efficient, this next generation 24-tonnes class wheel loader is a versatile performer – Its EU-Stage V engine putting out high power, more engine torque and greater performance at low engine speeds. Its after-treatment system combines a Komatsu Diesel Particulate Filter (KDPF) and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), the SCR system helping to further reduce NOx emissions through the use of AdBlue.

The engine’s advanced electronic control manages airflow rate and fuel injection, together with combustion parameters and after-treatment functions in order that performance is optimised, emissions reduced, and advanced diagnostic capabilities provided.

Innovative Komatsu technology found in the KHMT system makes the WA475-10 wheel loader more powerful and more fuel-efficient. A variable speed control allows the operator to adjust the machine’s top speed, throughout the entire speed range, while adjustable variable traction control effectively limits wheel spin in difficult ground conditions. Power control on the new model means hydraulic speed can be independently controlled directly from the accelerator pedal with the result it has never been easier for an operator to find the right balance between traction and lifting power.

The optimized Z-bar linkage system provides significantly more lift force and a higher tonnes-per-hour production rate. Its outstanding lift speed and class-leading machine stability help boost productivity, especially in narrow V-Shape loading applications. Furthermore, response time of the hydraulics and the dumping or lifting can be set to specific job-sites.

The new cab is more operator-friendly and spacious, with an internal noise level of just 70dB(A), and, with only four pillars, its all-around glass surface contributes to perfect visibility. A new air-suspension seat dampens vibrations to provide a more comfortable ride. Seat-mounted electronic pilot control levers, with the optional Komatsu Short-Lever-Steering System, improve convenience of operation and reduce operator fatigue.

The lever console features a new command-control dial and is adjustable to suit any operator. A slightly increased internal air pressure prevents dust and other particulates from entering the cab. For easy and safe entering or exit, the WA475-10 is equipped with a rear-hinged door, angled steps and large handrails. A 7-inch, full-colour, high-resolution monitor displays key machine metrics, including KDPF status, AdBlue levels and fuel consumption. ECO guidance system messages are displayed in real-time during operations and on the exit screen when the ignition is turned off. The ECO guidance menu – which can be saved and sorted – enables the operator to check operation logs and fuel consumption, useful to reduce overall fuel usage. Its ‘auto bucket-fill’ feature and other items help the operator to maintain productivity, even during long shifts.

Features that help lower fuel consumption include the programmable Auto-idle Shutdown system that automatically switches off the engine when idle. Cleaning and maintenance are easier – the radiator has wider fin spacing, the cooling fan swings out and has a standard auto-reversing function. An electric-tilt engine hood provides full access to the engine compartment with side doors to give quick and convenient access for daily checks and service. Full rear fenders are standard, and a gauge on the AdBlue fill cap reduces the risk of overfilling while reduced servicing costs lead to lower lifecycle cost.

Like other Komatsu machines, KOMTRAX telematics and Komatsu CARE customer maintenance program offer top fleet management and support, protect the machine against misuse and guarantee maximum efficiency and uptime.
